Summary : Wot is Summary? ._.

The first thing he could remember in his life were striking lime green eyes that danced amongst darkness and haunted him beneath fluttering eyelids. Then the immense lethargy that he had to fight off simply to lift the abovementioned eyelids so that he could look around. He could not quite understand why the room he was lying in felt so familiar to him despite him having zero memory of ever being there at all.

He had amnesia, the doctors later told him. So did the other kids who had come with him. But that’s ok, they added cheerily. At least they were alive.

Too relieved to meet someone who knew him before his memory loss, he simply nodded along with them, even as their cryptic remarks flew over him like haphazardly shot arrows.

A long sleepy day later, they told him his name.

Alcaedo Kraynott.

Then, they gathered him  and all the other kids with no memories to a room with many chairs (they called it the briefing room, or something along those lines) and taught them about Helne, the world that they live in.

According to them, Helne was the only liveable planet out of the nine in their solar system, and they currently reside in Tewen, the largest city on the continent Czerik. Oh, did they mention that Czerik was the only humanely surviveable continent left on Helne? They nodded amongst themselves agreeably when they realised that they just did and removed their spindly fingers from the large patch of green on the poster they called a map.

Czerik did not use to be the only liveable continent on Helne, they elaborated. Rather, it was a phenomenon caused by humans several decades ago. Somehow the technology used by the humans at that time damaged Helne so severely that it was unable to heal itself. ‘Wounds’ began sprouting on Helne. Some continents found themselves flooded by molten lava while some were literally cracked into many pieces and could never be put together again. Others were daunted by huge winds that tore through trees and sucked the humans right into space where they were never to be seen again.

By the time the humans noticed that they had almost annhilated their entire race and found a way to stop the destruction, Czerik was the only continent left unwounded. From then on, the humans turned their research to not only develop better techniques to replace the old technology, but also to prevent the disasters on the continents from spreading into Czerik.

One of the techniques that these men researched in was to modify humans themselves so that they need not rely on the methods of the old for common daily tasks. And they are the crystallization of these scientists’ research, the doctors (who probably were not really doctors after all) babbled excitedly, pointing their fingers in the direction of Alcaedo and the other kids excitedly, .

It was only when illusions danced in Alcaedo’s face, portraying himself looking way older than when he had last seen himself from across the mirror that Alcaedo realised exactly what and who these ‘modifications’ were applied to.
